Personal Development, Behaviour, Attitudes & Inclusion: Why Fledglings Exists

Everyone says they care about personal development.
But if you’re close to apprentices and 16 to 24-year-olds, you see the gap:

Young people are told to be “work ready” while:

  • 56% worry they don’t have the skills, experience or qualifications they need

  • 53% say they didn’t feel ready for work when they left education

  • 948,000 16 to 24-year-olds are NEET: not in education, employment or training

That isn’t just a “skills” issue. It’s behaviour, attitudes, inclusion, money, confidence, online life, and support all colliding at once.

Fledglings exists because ticking a box for “personal development” isn’t enough anymore.

The reality for apprentices, providers and employers

If you’re an apprentice or early in your career, you’re expected to:

  • Handle workplace behaviour and attitudes without anyone really naming the rules

  • Manage money, bills, rent and credit with almost no financial literacy education

  • Stay safe and professional online, while every part of life runs through a screen

  • Be “resilient” and “confident” in a job market that feels unstable and competitive

If you’re a training provider, college or employer, you’re expected to:

  • Foster personal development, behaviour, attitudes and inclusion across your provision

  • Align with Ofsted expectations and apprenticeship standards

  • Evidence everything (CPD, impact, enrichment, learner voice) in one place

  • Do all of this on top of delivering the core programme

No one is short of responsibility. People are short of time, tools and genuinely relevant content.

What Fledglings actually does

Fledglings is a blended learning platform built specifically to enhance:

  • Personal development

  • Behaviour

  • Attitudes

  • Inclusion

  • Employability

for young people in apprenticeships, college and early careers.

We focus on four core curriculum areas that young people tell us they need most:

  • Financial literacy: real-life money: pay, tax, rent, debt, credit, subscriptions, cost of living

  • Employability skills: behaviours, attitudes and professionalism that employers actually notice

  • Confidence & resilience: tools to handle feedback, pressure, comparison and change

  • Online safety & digital life: staying safe, smart and in control in a world that never logs off

And we deliver it through a model designed for busy providers and stretched teams:

  • Continuously updated online modules with videos, reflection tasks, quizzes and real-world scenarios

  • Fortnightly live webinars led by tutors, role models and industry guests

  • Built-in reporting dashboards, so you can see progress, engagement and completion in one auditable place

In short: we turn compliance into confidence, evidence, enrichment and impact made simple.

Why inclusion, behaviour and attitudes sit at the heart

When Ofsted talks about personal development, they’re not just asking if learners watched a video once.
They’re asking:

  • Are apprentices developing positive behaviours and attitudes to learning and work?

  • Do they feel included, safe, respected and represented?

  • Can you evidence this, not just say it happens?

Fledglings is built around that reality.

Our content is designed to:

  • Challenge unhelpful norms around “what an apprentice should be like”

  • Give learners language to talk about behaviour, attitudes and inclusion openly

  • Help providers move from “we think it’s happening” to “here’s how we know it’s happening”

It’s not about perfect learners. It’s about honest progress, and having the data to show it.

What's Next?

The next post dives into one of the biggest gaps we hear about constantly:

Financial literacy for apprentices: the money side of work that rarely gets covered, but shapes everything.

If you care about developing apprentices’ personal development, behaviour, attitudes and inclusion in a way that’s Ofsted-aligned and actually useful for young people, stay tuned.

This is the start.
Where growth takes flight isn’t just a tagline for us; it’s the standard we’re holding ourselves to.
